Competition analysis is another very important part of choosing your internet business niche.  By now, you should have an idea of what niche you want to dive into.  Now, it’s time to see if it will be easy enough for you to conquer it.   You see there is traffic potential and you know there are people buying products in the market.  The competition research will show you if it’s worth the effort.

The first competition analysis you want to complete is searching for the products already available in your the market.  If there are many products already on the market, there are lots of competitors.  Search your niche’s highest searched and best keyword phrases in Google, Amazon, and Clickbank to get a starting idea of the product selection.

Looking at the ads on search engines and the available products can only give you an opening idea about how tough the competition is.   The next step of competition research is examining the keywords. Internet marketing relies on keywords heavily.

The competition a certain keyword has will be the determining factor for the amount of work you will have to do to get your website found when users search that keyword.  You should try and establish a better understanding of what search engines like Google are looking for to fully understand what makes a keyword have difficult competition.

The most important part of keyword competition to know is the total amount of competitors means nothing.   Early in my internet marketing days,  I was told to find keywords that have less than “x” amount of competing pages.  Even though this is a good way to keep brand new internet marketers from attempting keywords out of their skill level, it is not a good way to determine the competition of a keyword.  You are never competing to be number #15 on the list…you are competing to be #1!
